Biodynamic Skills for Working with the Cranial Nerves

November 7-10,  from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
At the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Marin
240 Channing Way • San Rafael, CA

The cranial nerves are 12 pairs of nerves arising from the bottom (ventral) surface of the brain. Some bring information from the sense organs to the brain; others control muscles; still others innervate glands or internal organs such as the heart and lungs.

In this workshop you’ll learn nerve origins, pathways, inhibiting structures and resulting conditions.  This didactic part of the workshop qualifies as the equivalent to the Cranial Nerve Project, and if you have been a student of mine you’ll get credit for the Nerve Project by taking this workshop.

But equally important, you’ll also do daily hands-on learning which will introduce you to new skills while showing you new applications for skills already learned. These skills will expand and enhance your clinical practice.

New skills will include:

• Nerve tracking: sensing the local impingements and compressions that appear along the pathway of a nerve. This skill allows you to track and help resolve peripheral nerve irritations that lead to conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome and sciatic nerve pain.

Deepening skills include:

• Remote viewing and palpating: (palpating sensations in deep layers of tissue, in this case, in cranial tissue). Effective for palpating the cranial nerve paths, sensing inertial compressions like trigeminal neuralgia and helping resolve them.

Day 1: Wednesday, November 7:  Intro to working with the Cranial & Peripheral Nerves

Day 2: Thursday, November 8:  Cranial Nerves of the Eye:  II (Optic), III (Oculomotor), IV(Trochlear), VI (Abducens)

Day 3: Friday, November 9: Cranial Nerves of the Nose, Ears and Face: I (Olfactory), V (Trigeminal),  VII (Facial), VIII (Vestibulocochlear)

Day 4: Saturday, November 10: Cranial Nerves of the Mouth, Visceral Organs and Head/Shoulders:        IX (Glossopharyngeal) X (Vagus), XI (Accessory), XII (Hypoglossal)

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

Gary Peterson, founder and director of the STAR Institute, is a Registered Craniosacral Therapist (RCST ®) and an approved teacher with the Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Association of North America.  He has also taught and practiced Polarity Therapy for over 35 years, and served for 7 years as the Executive Director of the American Polarity Therapy Association.

Gary works with babies, children and adults in private practice in San Rafael and Petaluma. His clinical work is inspired by his ardent desire to understand and help resolve the deep causes of suffering found in shock and trauma to the nervous system.

Gary also teaches Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy trainings in Marin County and around the United States, as well as trainings in Polarity Therapy,  trauma resolution, birth imprinting and his own work with the nervous system, called Settling®.

Gary’s first book, Settling: Simple Ways to Calm Your Nervous System, will be published soon. This self-help manual gives you a set of vital skills for regulating your nervous system to experience balance and relaxation. Gary and his wife Bonnie have 3 grown children and one grandson,  and live in Sebastopol, CA.
